The growth of economic sociology as a sub-discipline is particularly welcome because it addressea some of the key issues of social science, particularly the nature and function of economic system. However, it also raises some fundamental questions concerning the nature of the social sciences themselves and the use of the very term “economic sociology”in particular. The authors discuss some fundamental questions regarding economic soicology in this paper. First of all, the nature, such as cross-disciplines, independence and so on, will be discussed; Secondly, the methodology of economic sociology will be explored,it will deal with the philosophical division between sociology and economics, the multiple fronts of economic sociology, and economic imperialism. Thirdly, authors introduce some issues concerning political economic sociology, efficiency and social custom, and the interdependence of payment systems.
As a case study of the typology of social economy, the analysis of agricultural society and peasant economy has been controlled by the evolutional discourse over a long period of time. Although many concepts such as political economy, tribal economy and peasant economy do not belong in the field of anthropology, they are the theories that anthropology has to diseuss. These abstract concepts have often helped people to put forward the range and limitation of a discussion and to find accurate clues for investigation, but on the other hand these concepts have often hidden the understanding of concrete situations. If the typological analysis of social economy could find that economy expresses various types when combined with various cultural conditions, this analysis may give us an enlightened perspective to look closely at the diversified developments of human beings.
