Water-Lubricated Ni-Based Composite (Ni-Al2O3, Ni-SiC and Ni-ZrO2) Thin Film Coatings for Industrial Applications In this work,pure nickel and Ni-based nanocomposite coatings（N1-Al2O3,Ni-SiC and Ni-ZrO2） were produced on steel substrate by using pulse electrodeposition technique.The industrial performance tests were conducted to evaluate the wear resistance,corrosion resistance,adhesion strength and wettability behaviour of newly developed coatings.Rolling contact ball-on-disc tribometer was used to assess anti-wear behaviour of these coatings under waterlubricated contacts.The results showed that the wear- and corrosion resistance properties of nickel alumina and Ni-SiC composite coatings significantly improved than that of pure Ni and Ni-ZrO2 coatings.The adhesion and wettability results of Ni-Al2O3 composite showed better performance when compared to the rest of the coatings.The effects of incorporating nanoparticles on the surface microstructure,interface adhesion and distribution of the particles were also investigated.The coatings were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction analysis and 3D white light interferometry.The wear failure behaviour of these coatings was further examined by post-test surface observation under optical microscope.
Synthesis and Characterization of C-TiO2/FeTiO3 and CQD/ C-TiO2/FeTiO3 Photocatalysts with Enhanced Photocatalytic Activities Under Sunlight Irradiation Sunlight-driven C-TiO2/FeTiO3 composites were synthesized with different weight fractions of FeTiO3.The as-prepared samples were characterized by UV-Visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction analysis,transmission electron microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,and photoluminescence.Under sunlight irradiation,the C-TiO2/FeTiO3 photocatalysts degraded methyl orange（MO） efficiently and displayed much higher photocatalytic activity than that of pure FeTiO3 or carbon-doped titanium dioxide（C-TiO2）,and the C-TiO2/FeTiO3 photocatalyst with 10 wt%of FeTiO3 exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity.The enhancement of photocatalytic activity was mainly ascribed to the formation of a heterojunction between C-TiO2 and FeTiO3,which facilitated the transfer and separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.The quenching effects of different scavengers demonstrated that the reactive superoxide radicals（O2-） and hydroxyl radicals（OH） played a major role in the MO degradation.The possible photocatalytic mechanism is discussed on the basis of the band structures of C-TiO2 and FeTiO3.To further enhance the photocatalytic efficiency,double-heterojunctioned CQD/C-TiO2/FeTiO3 composite was prepared by loading carbon quantum dots onto the C-TiO2/FeTiO3 surface.
3D Morphology and Formation Process of the Icosahedral Quasicrystalline Phase in Rapidly Solidified Al-Mn Alloy Three-dimensional morphology and formation process of icosahedral quasicrystal phase have been investigated in a melt-spun Al-18 Mn alloy(in wt%).Three distinct layers corresponding to varying temperature gradient have been observed on the cross section of the ribbons.3D morphologies of cellular and dendritic icosahedral phase have been obtained through electro-etching.A model has been proposed to describe the formation process of the icosahedral phase and α-Al during the rapid solidification.The icosahedral phases are primarily precipitated from the melt into fine cellular and dendritic particles,and subsequently engulfed by the α-Al which propagates in a planar morphology.
Effect of Precipitated Phases on Corrosion of Mg95.8Gd3Zn1Zro.2 Alloy with Long-Period Stacking Ordered Structure
Microstructure Modification of Powder Compact of Al-Zn-Mg Nanostructured Alloy by a Semisolid Thermomechanical Processing A thermomechanical process(TMP) consisting of three cycles of cold pressing at 154 MPa and liquid-phase sintering at 600 ℃ for 30 min in each cycle was applied to modify the microstructure of nanostructured Al-Zn-Mg alloy.The alloy powders were produced by mechanical alloying.Also,solid-state sintering at 550 ℃ for 90 min was done to compare the results with those obtained from the TMP.The powders and the thermomechanically(TM) processed samples were analyzed by XRD to reveal the present phases in addition to calculating the crystallite size changes by the Williamson-Hall method.Moreover,scanning electron microscope was employed to observe the morphology of the powder and the microstructures of the sintered and the TM processed samples.The results revealed that the TMP affected the microstructure noticeably as well as the microhardness by removing the continuous grain boundary porosities and uniform distribution of the intermetallic phase particles as well as obtaining a near globular microstructure after the second cycle.Also,the average grain sizes in the first and the second cycles of the TMP were lower than those of the sintered sample.Furthermore,nanocrystalline grains were stable up to the second cycle of the TMP.
Localized Corrosion of Binary Mg-Ca Alloy in 0.9 wt% Sodium Chloride Solution To further understand the localized corrosion of magnesium alloy,various in situ electrochemical techniques and ex situ electron microprobe analysis and SEM were used to monitor the corrosion process of Mg-l.OCa alloy in0.9 wt%sodium chloride solution.The results indicated that the localized corrosion was accompanied by the formation and thickening of a corrosion product film on the Mg-l.OCa alloy.A localized corrosion of the alloy initiated selectively on the eutectic micro-constituent zones,then enhanced with the exposure,developed in depth with ring-shaped corrosion products accumulated around and finally formed a volcanic-like pitting.Based on the measurements,an electrochemical corrosion model was proposed accordingly to describe the formation mechanism of the volcanic-like pitting on the alloy in 0.9 wt%sodium chloride solution.

Complex Precipitation Sequences of Al-Cu-Li-(Mg) Alloys Characterized in Relation to Thermal Ageing Processes The Al-Cu-Li-（Mg） alloy is a high-performance lightweight material strengthened by complex coexisting precipitates that form in the alloy upon thermal ageing.Using high-resolution（scanning） transmission electron microscopy in association with first-principles energy calculations,we systematically studied the complex coexisting precipitates in the alloys and correlated their precipitation sequences with thermal ageing processes applied.The principal results are the following:（1） eight types of precipitates can be observed in the alloy;（2） of these precipitates,the T1-phase is most stable.The S-phase precipitates with segregated Li atoms at their interfacial edges are unexpectedly more stable than the σ-phase;（3） the T1-phase has a characteristic precursor that plays the key role in its nucleation and growth.
